Gerardo Meny, an experienced and creative guitar player teamed up with fellow guitarist Sergio Sinning, to develop an ambitious project which one could classify under the broad and, often vague, Chill-out/Ambient style. On “Music and breakfast in summertime”, Gerardo and Sergio present their tracks as outstanding and structured compositions. The duo is keen on the art of combining real instruments with software driven applications. Fortunately, both aspects of making music hold up extraordinarily well in this open environment. The music is a fine mix of composed and improvised music. As they have a passion for tight compositions, the penned works are determined and crafty pieces.

From the initial and groovy “Music and breakfast in Summertime”, suggesting a well known jazz standard, to more adventurous clubbing tracks like Midnight sounds I & II, without forgetting the French inspired “Leaving home” and the Spanish-tingled “Chiquito” (note that Gerardo is from Uruguay, Sergio from Spain) this whole album is a conceptual work that is a joy to listen to. Conversely the longest piece, "Eden" is a nearly 10-minute composition that meanders, picking up momentum as it advances. Other beautiful and strong tracks are "Morning Dream" with its fragile intro, reminiscent of a music box and “Isla de Almendros”, with its jazzy piano melody. The remaining “Sad story” and “Sea view” are nostalgic and soulful respectively. Meny and Sinning have made a Chill-out/Ambient statement as strong as any working band, project or collaboration in music today. |
