This album is the result of a journey that began in Barcelona, at the flat of my friend Exequiel in 2002. A friend of us who was a DJ recommended us to check Fruityloop and to explore the possibilities that this user-friendly software could offer. Our musical roots were not exactly the right ones for Fruityloop, but it was fun to build up beats and loops and make music in a graphical way... It was really amazing to listen to the results!
I think I still keep some of the very first tracks we arranged. One was a Candombe Trance...
Since that day, something inside me triggered my curiosity and the need of searching for different sounds and new composition techniques as a link for my creativity.
There I was, at my precarious studio, spending many days, weeks, months and years in front of my 500 Euro laptop connected to speakers that I found on the streets. It is like to start playing the guitar with a second hand 2 string toy guitar! But you really learn how to find sounds on the less expected places...
So, when I realized that this could be something real and the possibilities of my equipments run out, I looked for a new job, saved money, lent another part from my wife (girlfriend in that time) and began to buy real monitors, a real laptop (Mac of course...), I isolated the room, which is not the bedroom anymore, and bought other nice toys and devices necessary for anyone who would pretend to mix electronic music at a home studio.
Why Kixote Project?
In the very beginning we were GLYS that stood for the first letters of the name of each band member, that was Gerardo (me), Lars, Yoav and Sergio who is still part of the project.
One night after hanging out with Sergio and with a couple of nice belgian beers, maybe a couple of to many, we talked about the idea that finding our path through the life and the music were very similar. We felt immediately like a pathfinder searching for the right path following his instincts. So we named it Pathfinders Electroacoustic Band. Unfortunately we only played 4 times together, 3 of them, lets put it in these words; they were very experimental... but we had a lot of fun.
After that Yoav and Lars left us in search for their own path, we realize that more than a band we were and are a music project.
Making music in my home studio, Sergio coming up with nice melodies to shape the new tracks, lot of weeks with no clue were to put the project or if it even will work in a so competitive market.
I felt like Don Quijote, two person believing (in their own particular way), in the same project, in a world of giants and mills, maids and inns.
Wearing an armor of tinplate and riding on a nag, Kixote Project will for sure conquest your heart.
This is just the beginning...
